DEXA (Bone Density)

DualEnergy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA)

DEXA is a non-invasive examination which measures bone density and/or bone loss.

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become weaker and more fragile. It is possible that osteoporosis can advance to the point where bones can break. This breakage primarily occurs in the hip, spine, and wrist.

The Dexa scan is used to determine bone density and the risk of fractures, to evaluate osteoporosis and, to ascertain the effects of treatment for osteoporosis or other conditions that may cause bone loss.
